Company ProfileA little History: Gary’s big break came in 1978 when actor John Wayne visited Carbon County endorsing a product used in the coal mines. One evening, Gary, then County Commissioner, was attending a water meeting at the Country Club. After the meeting Gary joined some friends who were talking about John Wayne and his tour of the area. One of the fellows who were escorting John around said “Hey Gary, why don’t you do a sculpture of John Wayne.” A year later, without any experience in the process of creating bronze sculpture, Gary completed a bronze sculpture of John Wayne. The sculpture was flown to Newport Beach and presented to John when he arrived home from a stay in the hospital. He endorsed the sculpture and it hit the API wire. Gary received a letter from John Wayne’s secretary, Pat Stacy, saying that John loved the sculpture and wanted to thank Gary personally when he felt better. Unfortunately, John passed away shortly afterward Danny Blanton entered the company in 2000. He has created some beautiful sculptures that have added to our collection.
